Annas Gingerbread Thin Cookies have spread happiness for generations, baked from the same traditional recipe since beginning: the foundations for Annas Pepparkakor were laid by the sisters Emma and Anna Karlsson back in 1929 in their home bakery in the Östermalm district of Stockholm. They enjoyed great success with the gingerbread thin cookies, or “Pepparkakor” in Swedish and other small pastries they baked, and the business was eventually sold to the Mattsson family in the mid-1960s. In November 2008, the company was bought up by the Belgian family-owned company, Lotus Bakeries, and Annas now has a presence in over 20 different countries, with a massive 60 per cent of production going for export.
Eat as they are, or with blue cheese. Or Glögg, mulled wine. Gingerbread biscuits are a must for a Nordic Christmas, but taste just as lovely all year round.
