Gorby’s is a brand for pastries made by Gunnar Dafgård AB in Källby. Manufacturing started in 1989 and Gorby’s is named after then Soviet Union leader Mikhail Gorbachev. The piroges have the same shape as traditional Karelian piroges, but different content and different stuffing. The original has meatloaf filling, but Gorby’s is also available with other fillings. According to Dafgårds, more than 12 million Gorby’s are eaten each year.
